TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 4 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team dominated Saturday night with a season-high 197.900 inside the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. The Sooners took down Utah State (196.350), Stanford (195.725) and Arizona (193.775) in a quad-meet by posting the second-highest score in the nation and the highest road score of the season.
Freshman Jordan Bowers won four event titles on the night taking home the all-around with a career-high 39.600, vault with a career-high 9.975, bars with a 9.900 and floor with a career-high 9.925. Sharing the bars title with Bowers was Danae Fletcher and Audrey Davis with matching 9.9s. Ragan Smith took home beam with a near-perfect 9.975 and shared floor with a 9.925. Utah State's Brie Clark also shared the floor title with a 9.925.
The Sooners came out on fire in the first rotation with a nation-leading 49.575 on beam. Jenna Dunn led things off for the Sooners with another strong routine and a stuck gainer full dismount for a 9.875. In the No. 2 spot, Bowers added a 9.800. Making her first beam appearance of the season, Katherine LeVasseur was stunning and confident in the No. 3 spot as she nailed her dismount for a career-best 9.875. Davis was gorgeous as always, showing off her choreography and sticking her dismount for a 9.925. Carly Woodard rebounded after last week's fall with a fantastic routine, crushing her series and the dismount for a 9.925 in the No. 5 spot. Smith anchored strong with a stuck dismount and another near-perfect 9.975.
OU had a strong second rotation with a 49.425 on floor to hold the lead at the halfway point. Bell Johnson moved into the leadoff spot and started things off with a 9.825. Davis followed with gorgeous choreography for a career-high 9.850. In the No. 3 spot, Woodard showed off strong tumbling for a 9.875. Making her debut on floor, Danae Fletcher earned a 9.850 in the No. 4 spot. Bowers tied her career high on floor with her unique tumbling passes for a 9.925. Anchoring on her second straight event was Smith with a 9.925.
In the third rotation, the Sooners put up a season-high 49.500 on vault thanks to a near-perfect vault in the anchor position from Bowers. Fletcher led things off with a 9.800, followed by a stick and a career-high 9.875 from Sheridan Ramsey. Starting the string of Yurchenko 1.5's was Allie Stern with a 9.9. LeVasseur stuck her vault for the third week in a row, earning a 9.95. Bowers anchored with a stick and a 9.975.
Closing out the meet strong was a 49.400 rotation on bars. Danielle Sievers and LeVassuer led off with matching 9.825s. Fletcher tallied a 9.9 in her bars debut, followed by a 9.875 from Smith. Bowers and Davis closed out the rotation with matching 9.9s to secure the Sooners victory.
The Sooners will return to the friendly confines of Lloyd Noble Center on Sunday, Jan. 30, to host the reigning Big 12 Champion Denver. The meet is slated for a 3:45 p.m. CT start on ESPN.
